Kylie Cosmetics approached me for the Cosmic 2.0 launch. The bottle’s unique shape and mirrored metal finish made real-life shooting challenging, so 3D was the perfect solution to control reflections and highlight the design with precision.
3D MODEL
For the initial Cosmic launch in 2024, I created the 3D model from scratch, sculpting the unique bottle shape in Cinema4D. For Cosmic 2.0, the design remained the same, but the material shifted from glass to a mirrored metal finish. This change brought a new set of challenges, especially with reflections, but having the original model allowed for a seamless adaptation to the updated look.

SOFTWARES
For this project, I used Fox Render Farm to handle all the rendering. This allowed me to render multiple scenes simultaneously in ultra-high quality while significantly reducing render times, ensuring an efficient and seamless production process.
The bottle was modeled and sculpted in Cinema 4D, including UV unwrapping.
I created all animations, simulations, and look development entirely in Houdini.
All texturing and rendering were done with Redshift in Houdini.
The compositing was done in After Effects for the final touches.
IDEAS
01 - BUMPY METAL
A wavy metal piece slowly unfolds to reveal the bottle.
02 - ROCK REVEAL
A solid rock fractures and opens, revealing the bottle inside.
03 - Water ripple
Rippling water swirls around the bottle before bursting open to reveal it.
04 - Liquid Reveal
A metallic liquid bursts and flows, shaping itself to reveal the bottle.
LIGHTNING TESTING
During this initial phase, I explored various lighting setups and moods to find the best way to showcase the bottle, which was particularly challenging due to its complex reflective surface. I tested different ambiances to see how light interacted with the materials, aiming to highlight the design while maintaining a balanced and visually appealing result.
MOTION R&D
For this project, I used Houdini to gain maximum control over the simulations. I needed to simulate metal, liquids, rigid bodies, and smoke, making it a complex project that was perfectly suited for Houdini’s powerful procedural workflow.
